Welcome to Protective Behaviours

Protective Behaviours is an internationally-acclaimed Prevention Education Program, dedicated to protecting children around the world from harm.

How Protective Behaviours works

The program makes safety education engaging and enjoyable for children, building their confidence and teaching them important skills without causing fear. It instructs children on how to recognize unsafe situations, practice safety, and empowers them to proactively protect themselves.

The Protective Behaviours process

Protective Behaviours is based on two themes and seven strategies that aim to enable people to take necessary actions to feel safe again. The themes and strategies of PB are designed to reinforce personal safety concepts, use one-step-removed approaches, review personal networks for reliability, use persistence, and maintain clarity in verbal and non-verbal communication.

History of Protective Behaviours

The Protective Behaviours process originated in Wisconsin during the 1970s by Peg West, Donna Fortin, and Joan Levy. It is now used extensively in Australia, the UK, and other countries in various agencies including Social Services, Schools, Police, and more.
